GLOBAL STANDARDS bcIMC encourages the companies we invest in to consider global conventions aligned with labour, health, and safety standards. We also encourage our external managers to consider adopting these best practices. International Labour Organization (ILO) The International Labour Organization is a UN agency that addresses labour issues and standards. The ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, adopted in 1998, addresses four categories: freedom of association and effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; elimination of forced or compulsory labour; abolition of child labour; and elimination of discrimination in respect to employment and occupation. www.ilo.org OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises are voluntary standards for responsible business practices, endorsed by OECD members, that apply to multinational companies. Its recommendations relate to corporate governance, transparency, environmental management, human rights, combating bribery, and the elimination of child and forced labour. www.oecd.org United Nations Global Compact The UN Global Compact encourages businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation. Its principles-based framework includes 10 principles, providing recommendations in the areas of labour, human rights, environment, and anti-corruption. www.unglobalcompact.org UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights were developed by the United Nations and endorsed by the Human Rights Council in 2011.
